Molecular Toxicology

The main issue of the research in this area is the characterization of the molecular pathways  that lead to cellular injury induced by xenobiotics by different mechanisms such as oxidative stress or metabolic formation of reactive intermediate species.  The defence  exerted by antioxidants and glutathione-dependent mechanisms for detoxification of xenobiotics is also a research topic of this area. In vivo and in vitro studies on biodisposition of drugs and xenobiotics are also performed.
Role of cytochrome P450-dependent in hepatic and extrahepatic tissues. Interaction of xenobiotics with transporter(s) and drug metabolism system.
Identification of the most suitable biomarkers of oxidative stress.
Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of new drugs with antioxidant effect.
Role of  cytochrome P450 system in the xenobiotic metabolism in the dopamine neurones.
Molecular mechanisms involved in the toxicity of natural and synthetic chemicals (drugs, food contaminants, industrial, nanomaterials).
Lipidomic map in human cell lines upon long-term challenge of xenobiotics.
Nitric oxide (NO), S-nitrosothiols and NOx: study of their functions and metabolism.
