It is possible to request an extension of the thesis submission deadline by submitting a formal application to the Academic Board. The request must include a valid justification, be approved by the PhD supervisor, and be submitted at least one month before the end of the program.

Further details and guidelines can be found in the Final Examinations section of the UNISI PhD website.

All documents will be submitted to dottorato.sdv.ls@unisi.it for the Board approval, and then officially forwarded to the external reviewers.

The PhD Secretariat is responsible for sending the thesis, the abstract, and the final report to the reviewers.

The reviewers must submit their comments (in Italian or English) within one month.

If both evaluations are positive, the Board will authorize the candidate’s admission to the final examination and, at the same time, confirm the composition of the examination committee and the examination date.

If the reviewers issue a reasoned negative opinion, the PhD candidate must revise the thesis accordingly and may defend it within six months of the originally scheduled date.

The appointed reviewers may also be included in the final examination committee. The examination committee shall be composed of a minimum of three and a maximum of seven members, of whom at least two-thirds must be from academic institutions.

The defense will take place at the San Miniato Science Campus of the University of Siena, on a date to be determined by the committee
