Off-site activities

During the three-year PhD program, doctoral candidates, in agreement with their supervisor, must plan a research stay of at least three months (six months for Pegaso and PNRR scholarships under DM 351-352, DM 117-118, and DM 630) at foreign laboratories to conduct research activities related to their field of expertise and connected to their PhD project.

Stay and Residency at External Institutions (in Italy and Abroad)

  • Identify the foreign institution in agreement with the supervisor and arrange the period with the host institution.
  • Submit the authorization request well in advance to the coordinator (see request template on the portal, to be accompanied by the invitation from the host institution).
  • On the start date of the activity, inform the coordinator (dottorato.sdv.ls@unisi.it) and the PhD Office (ufficiodottorato@unisi.it) of the actual start date at the external institution and the expected end date for the purpose of processing the allowance increase (payment will be postponed, as with the scholarship).
  • Promptly communicate any changes, particularly regarding the end date, to the coordinator and the PhD Office.
  • At the end of the stay, promptly submit the stay completion notification (see template) to the coordinator (dottorato.sdv.ls@unisi.it) and the PhD Office (ufficiodottorato@unisi.it).

 

 

 

Partecipazione a convegni e a campagne di campionamento

During the three-year PhD program, PhD students, in collaboration with their tutor, must participate in conferences and activities for the dissemination of scientific culture, as well as off-site activities for the collection of samples and data useful for their research project.

Regulation on the use of the PhD budget

Each year, every PhD student has a research budget of 1,624.30 Euros. The budget can be used for needs that are consistent with the objectives of the PhD Program, in accordance with the current PhD regulations, accounting rules, and the regulations of the University of Siena.
