ENVIRONMENTAL AND APPLIED BOTANY

Our research focuses on the study of plants for both environmental and agronomic purposes.

Biological effects of environmental changes caused by natural or human-induced stress, particularly the impact of pollutants on sensitive organisms (bioindicators) such as mosses and lichens.

Specific activities: Biomonitoring of atmospheric deposition of potentially toxic elements and microplastics - Projects: EUROPEAN MOSS SURVEY, MADAME, LAMINAM, HERAMBIENTE, MAG-BIO-ECO, ARPAT, LIMP, MADAME3.

Preventive conservation of cultural heritage from air pollution - Projects: CHIOMA, BIO4CBC

Soil-plant interactions, with a focus on the use of biostimulants and natural amendments to enhance crop yield, nutritional properties, and resilience to environmental stress. Specific activities:

Use of soil amendments - Projects: BIOPLASTIC, BIOSCAM, VITICHAR.

Use of biostimulants - Projects: BIOAGRI, BIOCES.

Citizen Science, engaging the public in scientific research on biodiversity and environmental quality. Specific activities:

Verification of citizen science data quality - Projects: PROHIBIT.

Environmental quality assessment through citizen science - Projects: LICEO, CS4RIVER
