Biosketch and CV

I am interested in the study of the biological effects of air pollution on sensitive organisms, especially lichens, to be used as biomonitors. My research focuses on: 1) the use of the diversity of epiphytic lichens as a measure of air quality, 2) bioaccumulation of trace elements in lichen and moss samples, 3) ecophysiologiocal parameters of lichens as early warning indicators of environmental changes. My research group works in cooperation with several other groups in Italy and abroad, especially Greece, Slovakia and Portugal.

- renewable energy production (geothermal, biomass)

- waste management (incineration, landfilling, composting)

- cement production (quarries, cement plants)

- agricultural activities (nitrogen pollution)

- vehicle traffic (NOx, Sb, Ce)
